ISBR Business School Shines at IIT Bombay’s National Entrepreneurship Challenge 2025

A Journey of Determination, Learning, and Achievement

After six months of rigorous preparation, ISBR Business School’s MBA team made history by qualifying as finalists in the prestigious National Entrepreneurship Challenge (NEC) at IIT Bombay. As Asia’s largest management competition, NEC saw participation from over 4,000 colleges, with only 40 teams making it to the finals. The achievement marked a proud milestone for ISBR, solidifying its presence on a national platform.

Day 1: A Grand Welcome and the First Hurdles

The team stepped into an electrifying atmosphere at IIT Bombay, surrounded by the energy of aspiring entrepreneurs and visionaries. Engaging with IIT students, they gained invaluable insights into the prestigious Entrepreneurship Cell (E-Cell) and its profound influence on startups, innovation, and business strategies.

The competition kicked off with an intense case study challenge and a crossword puzzle, where team members Soukya and Shubham proudly represented ISBR. The high-pressure environment tested their analytical skills and quick thinking. Despite fierce competition and tight time constraints, their participation stood as a testament to their resilience and determination. Faculty and mentors reminded them that making it to the finals was itself a monumental achievement—one that had put ISBR in the national spotlight.

Day 2: Thrilling Competitions and Game-Changing Insights

The second day was packed with competitions and knowledge-sharing sessions.

Fish Tank: Business Strategy in Action

Team members Elango, Soukya, and Sowmya participated in Fish Tank, a strategy-based competition designed to test business acumen. Given a budget of ₹20,000, participants had to manufacture and sell products like chocolates, orange juice, headphones, and smartwatches, with prices and costs varying dynamically. The challenge required sharp decision-making and strategic planning to maximize profits.

Diverse Competitions

The team also showcased their skills in competitions such as Squid Game, Ace the Case, IPL Auction, Corporate Duel, Bid and Build, and Pursuit of Eminence. Each challenge tested different business competencies, including problem-solving, negotiation, and strategic decision-making.

Industry Insights from Business Leaders

A key highlight of the day was the opportunity to learn from industry stalwarts, including:

  • Anupam Mittal (Founder, Shaadi.com; Investor, Shark Tank India)
  • Shantanu Naidu (Deputy General Manager, Tata Trusts; Associate of Ratan Tata)
  • Raj Shamani (Entrepreneur, Investor, and Content Creator)

These sessions provided firsthand insights into entrepreneurship, funding strategies, business growth, and resilience in the face of challenges.

Networking and Real-World Exposure

A dedicated networking zone enabled interactions with investors, entrepreneurs, and startup founders. Additionally, witnessing a coffee startup, Zenma, secure ₹3.33 crore in funding at TTMM (Ten Times Money Multiplier) reinforced the importance of a compelling pitch and investor confidence.

Key Takeaways from the Experience

  1. Strategic Teamwork: Effective task delegation based on individual strengths played a crucial role in the team’s performance.
  2. Mentorship Matters: Faculty advisor Shiva Prakash’s guidance proved invaluable throughout the journey.
  3. Start-up Ecosystem Exposure: Observing real-world investment scenarios highlighted the importance of networking and market validation.
  4. Resilience in Entrepreneurship: The journey underscored that setbacks are learning opportunities for future success.
  5. Learning from Industry Leaders: Firsthand interactions with accomplished entrepreneurs provided priceless insights into business and leadership.

Looking Ahead: A Bright Future for ISBR

The NEC finals at IIT Bombay were a transformative experience, igniting a stronger entrepreneurial spirit among ISBR students. Moving forward, the team is committed to applying these learnings, mentoring future teams, and further strengthening ISBR’s national presence in business competitions. This achievement is just the beginning of a journey toward greater milestones!
