Key Insights & Session Highlights

The session opened with an introductory address by Dr. Anjum Shagufta, Principal of ISBR Law College, who set the context before handing over to the resource person. Mr. Mahesh S delivered a presentation covering legal mandates, student leadership, and psychological well-being:

  • Ragger, Bystander, or Leader: Mr. Mahesh prompted students to reflect on their campus legacy, urging them to move away from harmful traditions and embrace active student leadership.
  • Impact Over Intent: The session emphasized that ragging is defined by the conduct’s physical or mental impact on the recipient rather than the perpetrator’s intentions.
  • National Context & Legal Frameworks: Highlighting the urgency of compliance, the speaker cited a 2025 report recording 51 ragging-related student deaths in India between 2022 and 2024 based on National Anti-Ragging Helpline complaints. He outlined institutional policies adhering to University Grants Commission (UGC) and Supreme Court of India mandates.
  • Digital Leadership: The presentation addressed the expansion of ragging into digital spaces, advocating for “Digital Leadership” to combat cyberbullying and online harassment.
  • Interactive Engagement: Students participated in real-world scenario analysis, a quick myth-versus-fact quiz, and joined in a collective campus pledge against ragging.

Fostering a Safe & Inclusive Campus Culture

The program fulfilled critical regulatory requirements while reinforcing ISBR’s proactive approach to student mental health and safety. By training students to recognize, understand, respond to, and commit against ragging practices, the initiative strengthens bystander intervention across all campus facilities.

In his closing advice, Mr. Mahesh urged senior students to replace ragging with mentorship, concluding with a central directive: “Let’s build a campus where every student feels they belong”.
